This statement sums up 24 years of personal development and systematic work that ultimately led to the development of DB-System®.
Deborah Borgen wanted to give others the same opportunity, and in January 2010, she introduced DB-System® in several countries.
To understand how we can unlock more of our untapped potential, she needed to discover inner resources she had not previously been aware of – and build her understanding piece by piece.
She thought of it as a puzzle, where every piece had to fall into place before she could see the whole picture.
Deborah had experienced firsthand what it was like to hit a wall and feel that she was falling short – as a Finance Manager, a partner, and a mother.
This was where the first piece of the puzzle fell into place.
High levels of stress and inner pressure can distance us from the inner resources we already have access to. We become restless and exhausted, may struggle with sleep, and lose some of our engagement and joy in everyday life.
In a world where outward appearances often carry a great deal of importance, we also experience both conscious and subconscious stress and pressure. We are expected to perform, succeed, and adapt to the demands placed on us in different areas of life.
Many of us learn how to adjust what we show on the outside to meet these expectations, but we learn far less about what is happening on the inside. How things appear can easily become more important than how we are actually doing mentally.
The first piece is therefore about reducing pressure and stress, so we can become more present in our lives again.
For Deborah, the brain became an important key to understanding more about who we are and how we function. She began to see the brain as a way to access more of the potential we have as human beings.
The brain contains billions of neurons that work together in complex networks to control our thoughts, emotions, behavior, and movements – while processing all the input we receive.
You may have learned that stress can be reduced by taking a walk in nature, meditating, or practicing yoga, or that the brain can be trained through crossword puzzles and different types of tasks.
But you may not have learned that we can intentionally develop and train the brain to handle life’s tasks and challenges in a better way.
This became another important piece of the puzzle.
Deborah discovered how the brain can be trained systematically to strengthen and optimize its functions. We can build new neural pathways while engaging more of the brain’s networks.
The second piece is about training the whole brain – not just certain areas – so that we can gain access to more of our inner resources.
The next step for Deborah was to find out how we can create lasting change ourselves.
She needed techniques she could use in her own life – in a simple and practical way – without having to rely on a therapist or other professional guidance.
Independence and self-leadership therefore became an important part of the development of DB-System®.
For Deborah, it was about enabling people to use more of their own potential and experience for themselves that they can influence their own lives and create change.
A sense of mastery is one of the most important things we can experience.
This piece fell into place when she developed cognitive techniques in combination with the brain training.
The researchers describe the training as self-guided positive imagery training.
Imagery refers to something imagined or created in the mind. When we are creative and have an idea, we use imagery. An idea can be said to exist in our imagination until it becomes a reality.
The mental exercises in the Basic Course are based on this principle. Thoughts and imagination are actively used as part of the brain training.
The third piece is about leading yourself while having techniques that make it possible to create change on your own.
When we learn to use these resources more consciously, we can lead ourselves in a better way and make everyday life easier and more balanced.
The balance between reason and emotions plays an important role in how we handle both small and large challenges and tasks in everyday life.
This was also one of the biggest challenges in Deborah’s own life, and became the next piece that needed to fall into place.
She needed to create a better balance between reason and our thoughts on one side – and emotions and imagination on the other.
As human beings, we are largely influenced by our emotions, often without even realizing it.
Deborah discovered that when we strengthen the brain’s networks, we can become more aware of our thoughts and emotions and better able to regulate them in daily life.
We need a better balance between our conscious mind and logic – and our subconscious mind and emotions.
You may have experienced being stuck in an emotion that is difficult to move out of. It could be irritation, anger, sadness, or despair.
When this happens, we often go on autopilot, with the brain drawing on old memories without us consciously realizing it.
When we develop a better balance between reason and emotions, it becomes easier to regulate our emotions and meet everyday life with greater calm and stability.
The fourth piece is about creating a better balance between reason and emotions, and through this gaining greater access to the subconscious mind – where much of our human potential lies.
With this balance, we can also bring out more of the best in ourselves and get more out of life.
When Deborah had a near-death experience in 1986, she gained an intuitive insight into how we function as human beings.
The experience had a profound impact on her, and she felt a need to understand more about what she had experienced – and how that insight could be turned into something that could also benefit others.
She gradually discovered that we are far more than many of us have been taught, and that we have a broader sensory capacity than what we usually associate with our physical senses and what we are able to put into words.
This was another important piece of the puzzle that fell into place.
We use our physical senses to navigate the outer, objective world. At the same time, we also have an inner sensory system that helps us navigate our inner world – our emotions, the subconscious mind, and signals we are not always able to explain logically.
This inner sensory system is what many people refer to as intuition or a gut feeling.
For Deborah, it was about more than occasional impressions. Through many years of exploring intuition and our sensory capacity, she began to understand how this inner resource can be developed and used more consciously.
The ESP sense became an important key in understanding how we can interpret information from the subconscious mind and open up access to a greater potential than we had previously been aware of.
The fifth piece is about strengthening our intuitive thinking so we can better understand and use our innate abilities and inner resources – and gain access to more of our untapped potential.
From an evolutionary perspective, intuitive thinking can be seen as a further development of our sensory capacity – helping us make better choices and decisions in life.
After many years of development, experience, and insight, the time had come to bring all the pieces together into a new system.
The final piece of the puzzle fell into place.
The Basic Course in DB-System® combines meditation, relaxation, mental training, consciousness training, and cognitive techniques – while also providing a tool for personal development, with simple and effective techniques for handling what we encounter in life.
The system draws on several different scientific fields, with the pieces gradually falling into place over many years.
DB-System® is built on our innate abilities and inner resources, while Deborah added a new dimension adapted to modern society and the challenges we face today.
It can be challenging to accept that our world and our beliefs may not represent the whole truth.
The journey Deborah went through brought major changes to her own life. She had to acknowledge a great deal, make changes, look at life from a whole new perspective, and dare to do things differently.
The philosophy behind DB-System® is not about religion or any particular belief system. It is about how we, as human beings – regardless of our worldview – can create a better life for ourselves and others.
Deborah has always seen the world as a puzzle, where all the pieces need to be in place for the whole picture to make sense.
No matter who we are or where we stand in life – rich or poor – every person has value.
The sixth piece is about being present in the world with a new perspective and making greater use of our inner sensory system in a more integrated way.
Today, Deborah believes that we can unlock more of our untapped potential in a simple way – to get the best out of life.
Together, all the pieces form the foundation of DB-System®.
